Family Devotions for Early Childhood, Sunday May 12: The Angel Helps Peter Escape from Prison

Bible Text: Acts 12:1-19

Key Point of Passage: Herod put Peter in prison, but the church prayed to God, and He sent an angel to free Peter.

Memory Verse: God did miracles (Acts 2:22).

Questions for Discussion:

1)      What did King Herod do to Peter? Where did he put him?

2)      But the church prayed for Peter. Did God answer their prayers? What happened?

3)      Is God powerful enough to answer big prayers today too? Let’s pray together now.

Family Devotions for Early Childhood, Sunday May 05: Saul Meets Jesus

Bible Text: Acts 9:1-18

Read with Me Bible Reference: Pages 415-421

Key Point of Passage: Jesus opened Saul’s eyes so that Saul was changed into someone who was against Jesus into someone who worked for Jesus.

Memory Verse: “Come follow Me”, Jesus said (Mark 1:17).

Questions for Discussion:

1)      When Saul was on the road to go put believers in prison, he met Jesus. What did he see and hear?

2)      Afterwards, Saul was blind, but God sent Annanias to pray for him. When Annanias prayed for Saul, what happened? Could Saul see then?

3)      After this, did Saul continue to be against Jesus, or did he start following Jesus and working for Him?

4)      The Bible says that each of us has to decide is we are going to live our lives against Jesus, or if we are going to follow Him like Saul did. Let’s pray that we will all choose to live FOR Jesus instead of against Him.

Family Devotions for Early Childhood, Sunday Apr 21: The Early Church Shares

Bible Text: Acts 2:42-47; 4:32-35

Key Point of Passage: The early Christian believers shared everything they had with each other.

Memory Verse: Love your neighbor as yourself (Luke 10:27).

Questions for Discussion:

1)      Our Bible story today talks about how the first Christian believers shared everything. What are some of the things they shared with each other?

2)      The Bible said the first Christians didn’t say their things were their own, but gave them to whoever needed them. Is it sometimes hard to share our own things with our friends or brothers or sisters?

3)      What is something you have that God might want you to share with someone else?

Family Devotions for Early Childhood, Sunday Apr 14: The Holy Spirit Comes

Bible Text: Acts 2:1-41

Read with Me Bible Reference: Pages 404-407

Key Point of Passage: God poured out His Holy Spirit on all believers, young and old.

Memory Verse: Be filled with the Holy Spirit (Ephesians 5:18).

Questions for Discussion:

1)      In our Bible story today, God poured out His Holy Spirit on all believers at once. What did they see and hear?

2)      This day was the first time that God poured out His Spirit on all believers. But were those the only believers who were given the gift of the Holy Spirit?

3)      Can even children receive the Holy Spirit?

4)      What does the Bible say we have to do in order to receive the Holy Spirit? Let’s pray for the Holy Spirit to come be present with us today in each of our hearts.

Family Devotions for Early Childhood, Sun Apr 7: Jesus Goes Back to Heaven

Bible Text: Acts 1:1-14

Read with Me Bible Reference: Pages 402-403

Key Point of Passage: Jesus appeared to His disciples many times for forty days before they watched as He was taken up to Heaven.

Memory Verse: Jesus will come back (Acts 1:11).

Questions for Discussion:

1)      After Jesus died on the cross and came back to life, did he continue to appear to His disciples?

2)      After forty days, where did the disciples see Jesus go?

3)      Did Jesus leave us forever? Or will He come back?

4)      And who did Jesus send to be with us while we wait? Do you know Who the Holy Spirit is and what He does (tell them about Him).
